The Dutch hamlet Den Bosch is pulling out all the stops with a host of events to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the death of Hieronymus Bosch, medieval master of the macabre. Foremost among them is “Jheronimus Bosch: Visions of Genius,” the largest exhibition of his works ever held, running February 13 through May 8 at the Noordbrabants Museum. Drawn from collections around the globe, the 20 paintings and 19 drawings on view depict all manner of fanciful figures presented along with works that contextualize the artist and his oeuvre.“Bosch probably never saw so many of his works together at one time,” says museum director Charles de Mooij. Nearly 100 events and projects are planned in the Netherlands for the quincentennial, including the world premiere of Requiem for Bosch, composed by Detlev Glanert and performed by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
