The Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD) presents ‘Paradise on Earth: Flemish landscape painting from Bruegel to Rubens’ at the Kunsthalle im Lipsiusbau in Dresden through January 15, 2017.Following intensive investigation and restoration, Dresden’s Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister is exhibiting their exceptional collection of Flemish landscape paintings of the 16th and 17th Centuries, including drawings and prints from the Dresden Kupferstich-Kabinett as well. The exhibition puts on display works that redefined landscape painting giving rise to numerous sub-genres that supported a thriving art market. The exhibition traces a continuum from pioneering work of Pieter Bruegel the Elder and Joachim Patinir in the 16th Century to the atmospheric genius of Peter Paul Rubens in the next. In effect, it is not a collection of ‘portraits of landscapes’ but rather carefully composed, idealized representations of Paradise.‘Paradise on Earth: Flemish landscape painting from Bruegel to Rubens’ is on display at the Kunsthalle im Lipsiusbau, Brühlsche Terasse, Dresden 01067, Germany. For details, visit: http://www.skd.museum/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peak of the exhibition.
