Over 200 paintings, sculptures, drawings, books, tapestries, dresses, and photographs, as well as scientific and historical medical apparatus and models, will be on show to present the Art Nouveau period as one of reform.According to the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, which will mount the Art Nouveau exhibition this month, the epoch “can be seen today not just as a   mere historical stylistic era, but can open up parallels to complex phenomena familiar to visitors from their own experience.” At the time, resources were scarce and consumer behavior unpredictable, so innovative ways to use materials were devised, which eventually led to the production of stylish and elegant interior furnishings. This show will tease out central tenets of the movement — such as European industrialization and fascinations with the Far East — and features works by artists including Louis C. Tiffany, Carl Otto Czeschka, Emile Gallé, Karl Gräser, Otto Eckmann, and Alfons Mucha, among several others.Art Nouveau runs from October 16 through February 7, 2016 at The Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg.
